The Borumba Pumped Hydro Project covers approximately 1670 ha of the Sunshine Coast hinterlands, capturing a diverse and complex landscape of Aboriginal cultural values.
The work has involved an initial cultural heritage assessment, ongoing assistance with early works assessments, a large scale cultural and archaeological values assessment as part of the EIS process, as well as the production of technical reports. To this end, we have undertaken archaeological surveys, controlled hand and mechanical excavations, detailed technological analysis of stone artefacts, intangible values mapping, historical research, and development of predictive models through the innovative use of GIS and LiDAR technologies. These investigations have led to the identification of hundreds of sites and values, managed through a database developed by our team.
Through ongoing work at Borumba, Converge has also facilitated partnerships between the Kabi Kabi People and academic researchers to conduct paleoenvironmental and zooarchaeological studies on material excavated from the site, utilising the full breadth of scientific methodologies within a consultancy context.
