The impressive brick water tower was constructed in 1901/02 as part of Bundaberg’s first reticulated water supply scheme and served in this capacity until its decommissioning in 2018.The significance of the East Water Tower is underpinned by its inclusion in the Queensland Heritage Register.
The Conservation Management Plan is a practical tool that helps the Bundaberg Regional Council make sound decisions about conserving and managing the East Water Tower. It identifies the place’s cultural significance and sets out conservation policies to protect that significance in particular in the event of change and provides strategies for putting policies into action. Besides the conservation of the fabric of the water tower, the ongoing management including the interpretation and options for the future use of the structure also formed an integral part of the Conservation Management Plan.
