The investigations involved several survey and excavation programs which lead to the development of priority areas within the development footprint. Further investigation was negotiated for these areas including additional excavations, environmental studies, scientific dating, and residue and use wear analysis of stone artefacts. This work was completed as part of the Kabi Kabi People’s broader ambitions to develop their understanding of the way different parts of their Country were utilised in the past.
Another significant outcome of the negotiations was the negotiation for adaptive reuse of mature trees that were being removed as part of the development. Trees were reused for habitat, thus supporting the Kabi Kabi’s Caring for Country initiatives. Trees were also provided to the Kabi Kabi for their economic projects
