Established in 1850, it was the first official cemetery forthe Drayton and Toowoomba district, the second on the Darling Downs, and remains one of the state’s earliest continuously operating public cemeteries.

The CMP provides Council with a practical, easy‑to‑use framework for the long‑term care of this important heritage place. The plan sets out clear conservation policies, a structured action plan, and a tailored maintenance program—ensuring the cemetery’s heritage values are protected while supporting ongoing community access and use.

Converge has significant experience in the preparation ofCMPs for historic cemeteries including the Toowong Cemetery, Maryborough Cemetery, and Cooktown Cemetery. All of which are also included in the Queensland Heritage Register for their significant heritage values.
