The Fortitude Valley brick and stone drain section forms part of a large series of inter-connected historical drains that run under the city of Brisbane, with sections of the system being listed on the Queensland Heritage Register. The archaeological monitoring was undertaken to satisfy heritage compliance requirements for the drainage upgrade project. Converge Heritage + Community was engaged as the project archaeologist for the project to record the entire process of exposure and removal of a ten-meter section of the drain in advance of capping each end and installation of a concrete stormwater chamber, which was tied into the existing historic brick drain at both ends. Following completion of the works, an archaeological monitoring report was prepared to outline the process of the removal and monitoring.
