Converge Heritage + Community was engaged to provide heritage advice for the façade of the historical R.S. Exton and Co. Ltd. warehouses at Bowen Street, Spring Hill, which are now part of the ‘Frisco’ apartment building. The two-storey brick workshop with decorative front parapet was built in 1919 for successful Brisbane business, R.S Exton and Co. Ltd. The workshops were designed by prominent Brisbane architectural firm, Chambers and Powell and were used for several purposes, including shopfitting, signwriting and a garage.
At the time of the assessment the place was proposed for entry to the Brisbane City Council local heritage register. The scope of works for the initial assessment included a site inspection and desktop review. An advice letter was prepared for the client to provide heritage recommendations to manage compliance requirements associated with owning a local heritage building.
Following the provision of advice, Converge prepared a Conservation Management Plan to assist with the ongoing heritage management and maintenance of the historic building.
