Converge Heritage + Community were engaged by Mackay Regional Council to lead a detailed study to guide the essential restoration and repairs of several significant buildings in the complex. Greenmount Homestead is an early twentieth century rural property located outside of Mackay, in Central Queensland. The homestead complex is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register as a place of State heritage significance. The Greenmount Homestead complex is operated as a house museum by Mackay Regional Council. The complex includes the Queenslander style residence as well as several original timber outbuildings including a dray shed, workers cottages, laundry, generator shed, garage and workshops.
Converge Heritage + Community worked with a team of engineers and architects to deliver the study which was undertaken in two phases. Phase one included heritage and engineering assessments, geotechnical studies, preparation of new site and building architectural plans, recommendations to remediate condition issues, preparation of specifications and cost estimates for the works. A Heritage Asset Management Plan was prepared by Converge Heritage + Community in 2022 to inform the conservation project. An archival record was also prepared at this time. Phase two was completed in 2025 and comprised the detailed design and preparation of a Heritage Impact Statement for the application for heritage approval from the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation. Following completion of the conservation and repairs at the complex, the full interpretative potential of the site will be realised.
