Converge Heritage +Community was engaged by the Fraser Coast Regional Council to undertake an excavation program at the Original Maryborough Town site, which is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register. The site was occupied between 1848 and 1855 and was largely abandoned by 1856 in favour of a new town site. It is located four kilometers northwest of the current city center, on the north bank of the Mary River. The original town site provides important archaeological evidence of the early European settlement of the area. The primary aim of the excavation program was to determine the condition of and extent to which archaeological material had survived within the Original Maryborough Town Site. Artefacts and features recorded during the program included transferware, brick and stone building foundations, fragments of glassware, porcelain and clay artefacts and bottles.

During the program, in excess of 100 Aboriginal cultural heritage artefacts were also discovered, and consultation and engagement was undertaken with the Butchulla People to manage this.
