Converge Heritage + Community was engaged by GHD to provide heritage advice for a proposed multiple dwelling development at Nundah for the Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works. The project area adjoins two local heritage places. These were both built in 1937, designed by Brisbane architect C. E. Plant and are two storeyed masonry buildings with Spanish Mission features, which were popular at that time. The houses were commissioned and owned by the Mrs Florence Rose who was a proprietor of the Imperial Picture Theatre on Sandgate Road (now demolished) along with her husband whose family played a large role in the Nundah entertainment scene.

The proposed construction was necessary to provide public housing to the area and while neither heritage building would be directly impacted by the works, it was important to evaluate the impacts on the views and streetscapes in line with the statements of significance and Brisbane City Council Planning Scheme. While some impact to the streetscape was unavoidable, Converge was able to confirm that the design choices in style and size were appropriate, provide compliance advice to manage any potential impacts and to assist with any necessary heritage approvals from Brisbane City Council.
