Converge Heritage + Community was engaged by the Department of Defence to prepare Heritage Management Plans (HMP) for the Cowley Beach Training Area (CBTA) and the Tully Training Area (TTA) in North Queensland. Both training areas are located wholly within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Part of the CBTA is also situated within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Area, which is also a World Heritage Place. The HMPs provide Defence with assessments of the CBTA and the TTA for their natural, Indigenous and historic heritage values and provides recommendations for the management of identified significant values in accordance with Defence’s obligations under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, and the Defence Estate Heritage Strategy.
